El distrito agroalimentario de calidad en el Valle del Jerte. Empresas y especialización productiva

Abstract

La comarca del Valle de Jerte ha presentado históricamente una especialización productiva en la agricultura de montaña, donde la cereza se ha constituido como su producto estrella y el motor económico. Esta actividad productiva no se ha centrado solo en el sector primario, sino que ha copado toda la cadena de valor del producto, siendo en la actualidad la comercialización al por mayor la actividad principal de las empresas y cooperativas vinculadas a este negocio. Además de todo lo anterior nos encontramos que la creación del capital social en la comarca ha hecho que se produzca también la especialización de otros sectores como la cultura y el turismo en fomentar la imagen de marca del territorio a través de la vinculación a su producto estrella, la cereza. El objetivo principal que nos planteamos en este artículo es analizar la economía y la especialización productiva del Valle del Jerte a través de las economías de aglomeración, y más concretamente a través de la noción de Distrito Agroalimentaria de Calidad, comprobando si cumple la descripción teórica de los mismos, la situación presente dentro de su ciclo de vida y una visión preliminar de la situación reflejada por los estados contables de los balances de las empresas. Entre las conclusiones obtenidas debemos destacar que se ha corroborado que se cumplen las nociones teóricas de las economías de aglomeración y que los indicadores económicos nos muestran una tendencia creciente en la actualidad.

The region of Valle de Jerte has historically presented a productive specialization in mountain agriculture, where the cherry has become its star product and the economic engine. This productive activity has not focused only on the primary sector but has covered the entire value chain of the product, being currently the wholesale marketing of the main activity of the companies and cooperatives linked to this business. In addition to all the above, we find that the creation of social capital in the region has also led to the specialization of other sectors such as culture and tourism in promoting the brand image of the territory through the link to its star product, the cherry. The main objective that we propose in this article is to analyse the economy and productive specialization of the Jerte Valley through the economies of agglomeration, and more specifically through the notion of Quality Agri-food District, checking if it meets the theoretical description of them, the present situation within its life cycle and a preliminary vision of the situation reflected by the accounting statements of the balance sheets of companies. Among the conclusions obtained, we must highlight that it has been corroborated that the theoretical notions of agglomeration economies are fulfilled and that economic indicators show us a growing trend today.
