Nuevos trazados de caminos para la Extremadura del siglo XVIII. Una visión desde el patrimonio a través de su representación sobre el papel

Abstract

En este trabajo hacemos un breve recorrido por las obras de infraestructura necesarias para acomodar el paisaje a las necesidades del hombre en cuanto a traslado y transporte de mercancías, y todo ello centrado en la Extremadura del siglo XVIII. Nuestro recorrido se inicia con una visión de la representación del paisaje, empleando para ello algunos de los dibujos conservados en el Archivo Histórico Nacional. Un territorio que luego se vio surcado con los caminos que se fueron consolidando durante la segundad mitad del siglo XVIII. Y que estuvieron recorridos por una serie de posadas o ventas que también es necesario citar y estudiar por la importancia que tuvieron en el nacimiento de esta, aún muy incipiente, red de comunicaciones.

This study constitutes a brief journey through the infrastructures necessary to mould the landscape in keeping with man’s needs for the transfer and transport of merchandise, all this concentrating on the Extremadura of the 18th century. Our journey begins with a vision of the representation of the landscape using for the purpose some of the drawings preserved at the Historical National Archive. This territory was then criss-crossed with the roads which were gradually consolidated during the second half of the 18th century. They were studded with a series of inns which also need to be mentioned and studied owing to their importance in the origin of this incipient communication network of the time.
