Caracterización e identidad de los emigrantes retornados. El caso de Extremadura en el periodo anterior a la crisis económica de principios del siglo XXI

Abstract

El presente trabajo aborda la caracterización de las personas retornadas a Extremadura que emigraron de la región con anterioridad a la crisis económica iniciada en el bienio 2007-2008 en España. Esta caracterización se realiza atendiendo a la trayectoria migratoria en conjunto y,por tanto, a través del estudio del proceso emigratorio previo, el proceso de retorno realizado así como la disposición a futuros desplazamientos o re-emigración. Por otro lado, se analiza la identidad socioterritorial de los retornados, con el objeto de identificar su función en el proceso de regreso, siendo otro elemento de análisis la identidad de los territorios como construcción social. Entre otros aspectos, los resultados muestran la heterogeneidad de la migración de retorno atendiendo a variables sociodemográficas, espaciales y temporales, así como la existencia de lógicas materiales subyacentes no solo en el proceso emigratorio, sino también en el retorno y en la actitud hacia la re-emigración. También se muestra la existencia de lógicas latentes en el regreso relacionadas con la vinculación identitaria con los territorios de origen y de acogida, la identificación del medioambiente natural como componente clave de la identidad del territorio de origen, así como la relación entre trayectoria migratoria y la construcción social de la identidad de los territorios.

The present work deals with the characterization of the people returned to Extremadura who emigrated from the region before the economic crisis that began in the 2007-2008 biennium in Spain, taking into account the migratory trajectory as a whole and, therefore, through the study of the previous emigration process, the return process carried out as well as the disposition to future displacements or re-emigration. On the other hand, the socio-territorial identity of the returnees is analyzed, in order to identify their role in the return process, being another element of analysis the identity of the territories as social construction. Among other aspects, the results show the heterogeneity of the return migration taking into account sociodemographic, spatial and temporal variables, as well as the existence of underlying material logics, not only in the emigration process, but also in the return and attitudes towards re-emigration. It also shows the existence of latent logics in the return migration related to the identity relationship with the territories of origin and host, the identification of the natural environment as a key component of the identity of the territory of origin, as well as the relationship between migratory trajectory and social construction of the identity of the territories.
