Corte y academias literarias en la España de Felipe IV

Abstract

This is a study of the Literary Academies that, under the protection of the Court, were celebrated in 17th century Spain under King Philip IV. We examine the way of organization of these cultural institutions in the Golden Age in Spain, its structure, its periodicity, and the type of compositions that were announced. Also we analyze the protection of Philip IV of these Literary Academies, and the impulse that he gave them. The principal Academies that took place in the Court of the King Planet are here studied. The protection and attendance of the Monarch to these Academies, the reasons for their creation, their form of organization, the participants involved in them, the compositions prepared, the prizes that were awarded to the winners of the contests, the taunts that summarized its development and were transmitted for the posterity will be the object of analysis of the present study. With all this we intend to fill an existing void in the literary and cultural historiography of the Spanish Baroque.

Estudio de las Academias Literarias que, al amparo de la Corte, se celebraron en el siglo XVII español en la época del rey Felipe IV. Se explica el modo de organización de esas instituciones culturales en la España del Siglo de Oro, su estructura, su periodicidad, el tipo de composiciones que allí se daban a conocer. Se analiza la labor realizada por Felipe IV de protección de esas Academias Literarias y el impulso que les proporcionó. Se enumeran y analizan las principales Academias que tuvieron lugar en la Corte en la Corte del Rey Planeta, bajo la protección y con la asistencia del monarca, haciendo especial hincapié en los motivos por los que se convocaron, su forma de organización, los participantes que intervinieron en ellas, las composiciones que elaboraron, los premios que se otorgaron a los ganadores de los certámenes, los vejámenes que resumieron su desarrollo, y lo transmitieron para la posteridad. Con todo ello se cubre un hueco existente en la historiografía literaria y cultural del Barroco español.
