Estudio arquitectónico del colegio jesuítico de Plasencia

Abstract

Plasencia acogió el colegio más antiguo que los jesuitas implantaron en Extremadura. Constituido en la segunda mitad del siglo XVI, se incluye en el grupo de primeras fundaciones que realizaron en España con la dirección personal de San Ignacio de Loyola y de San Francisco de Borja. Esta circunstancia aporta al centro placentino mayor interés, ya que nos remonta al nacimiento de la Compañía de Jesús y a las condiciones que se dieron para establecer sus casas. Afortunadamente, la historia de este colegio ha sido ya investigada por el padre Rodríguez G. de Ceballos, quien proporciona una información exhaustiva delos avatares que se sucedieron para hacerlo realidad, así como las fases de su edificación y los artistas que intervinieron en ella. Por este motivo, destacaremos sólo aquellos factores que son intrínsecos en todo proceso fundacional de la Compañía y la singularidad del caso placentino como muestra de la situación general de la arquitectura jesuítica en Extremadura.

Plasencia hosted the oldest college that the Jesuits implanted in Extremadura. Constituted in the second half of the 16th century, it is included in the group of first foundations that carried out in Spain with the personal address of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and Saint Francis Borgia. This circumstance brings to the center of the city greater interest, since it goes back to the birth of the Society of Jesus and to the conditions that were given to establish their houses. Fortunately, the history of this college has already been investigated by father Rodríguez G. de Ceballos, who provides an exhaustive information of the avatars that followed to make it a reality, as well as the phases of its construction and the artists who participated in it. For this reason, we will highlight only those factors that are intrinsic to the foundational process of the Society and the singularity of the Placentine case as a sample of the general situation of Jesuit architecture in Extremadura.
