Title: El "Ecce Homo" de Luis de Morales del Museo de Bellas Artes de Santiago de Chile
In the hall dedicated to Spanish painting of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Santiago de Chile an oil on board is preserved with the title of «The Christ of the Cane» and the attribution to Luis de Morales. It is an «Ecce Homo», whose formal and stylistic features leave no doubt about the authorship of Morale’s workshop. The existence of this work in Chile can be related to the important presence of Extremadura in Chile, whose capital, Santiago de Chile, was founded in 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia, under whose influence an important population of Extremadura would arrive in Chile during the 16th century, especially from the party of La Serena, whose towns are not unrelated to the existence of works by Luis de Morales.
