Radio educativa para fomentar las vocaciones científicas: el Proyecto "Ratones de laboratorio"

Abstract

Aproximar la ciencia, a través de la radio educativa, a escolares de Primaria de Extremadura (España) es el objetivo del proyecto de divulgación científica ‘Ratones de Laboratorio’, una iniciativa innovadora que ha permitido llegar a cerca de medio millar de alumnos de entre 9 y 13 años. Una experiencia divulgativa con una novedosa metodología de trabajo consistente en la elaboración de espacios radiofónicos donde los protagonistas han sido los propios escolares, que previamente han recibido talleres prácticos realizados por investigadores de la Universidad de Extremadura en los que explicaban cuestiones científicas de la vida diaria. En este artículo se pretende exponer las fases del proyecto y los instrumentos de investigación utilizados para determinar qué ha supuesto esta experiencia para los escolares y la influencia de acciones de este tipo en la percepción pública de la ciencia entre la comunidad escolar en edades tempranas. La principal conclusión que podemos avanzar ha sido la mejora de la percepción por parte del alumnado del trabajo realizado por los científicos y el aumento del interés en las materias relacionadas con el ámbito científico en pro de las vocaciones STEM.

The aim of the scientific dissemination project ‘Laboratory mice’ is to approach to science, through education radio, to elementary students in Extremadura (Spain). This innovative initiative has allowed to reach nearly half a thousand students between 9 and 13 years old. An informative experience with a novel work methodology consisting in the elaboration of radio spaces where the leads have been the students themselves, who have previously received practical workshops carried out by researchers from the University of Extremadura and who explain the scientific issues of daily life. In this article is hoped to explain all the stages of Project and investigation instruments that have been used to know the student experiences and how have actions influenced in the public perception of science between the school community at an early ages. The main conclusion has been the improvement of the perception by the student of the work done by the scientists and the increase of the interest in the subjects connected to the scientific scope in favor of the STEM vocations.
