The residue of greco-latin readings, shared by almost all European writers in all times, generated a common literary tradition that was engaged constantly with the old masters. Good example of that reflection and debt with the traditional authorities can be this study, therefore, based on a latin text and after analyzing their inheritance in Fray Luis de León and Lord Byron, descends more inveterate sources: greek poetry. It is, therefore, say with Heraclitus: "everything (in)flows, nothing remains", but neither is destroyed. In literature, this old axiom, as we see, was in full force: Lucretius racked to Asclepiades, Fray Luis poured into new molds to Lucretius; and Lord Byron drank, without doubts, of Asclepiades, and perhaps, of Lucretius. |
