Since the establishment of the Compulsory Military Service in Spain, through the so-called “fifths” until its abolishment in 2001, this compulsory military service developed a popular culture for the century and a half it was in force. This popular culture was related to every walks of daily life. “Carving” the young ones who were going to be in the “fifth” it was notably a family event. The departure for the military service originated a popular culture to be reflected in poems, or songs that have lasted until today. |
