Don Benito: Las ordenanzas municipales de 1862

Abstract

Pretendemos con este artículo hacer una radiografía de cómo podía ser Don Benito a comienzos de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Para ello hemos interpretado la situación urbana, demográfica, económica, cultural, sanitaria, etcétera, de la, por entonces, recientemente nombrada Ciudad, analizando la información que nos proporcionan los 132 artículos del “Reglamento de Policía Urbana para la Ciudad de Don Benito”, aprobado por el Concejo en 1862. También hemos bebido información en otros documentos paralelos en el tiempo como: Las respuestas al interrogatorio de la Real Audiencia de Extremadura de 1791; el informe de Pascual Madoz, 1847; y el plano de Don Benito, realizado por Francisco Coello en 1863, que nos han ayudado a completar el análisis de las formas y condiciones de vida de aquella numerosa comunidad decimonónica

With this article we try to do a snapshot of how Don Benito could be at the beginning of the second half of the nineteenth century. To do this we have interpreted the urban, demographic, economic, cultural and health situation of the newly appointed Town, analyzing the information provided by the 132 articles of the "Urban Police Regulations for the City of Don Benito", approved by the Council in 1862. We also obtained some information in other paralell documents as: the responses to the interrogative by the Real Audiencia de Extremadura in 1791; the report of Pascual Madoz, 1847; and the map of Don Benito by Francisco Coello in 1863, which have helped us to complete the analysis of the ways and conditions of living in this large community of the nineteenth century.
