Cèsar Martinell y la restauración monumental en la provincia de Tarragona (1927-1935)

Abstract

Comenienza el estudio sobre Cèsar Martinell en 1927 ya que dos años después hubo un giro crucial en su carrera profesional partir de esta fecha se dedicó casi exclusivamente a dos ámbitos: al estudio de la historia del arte y a la restauración de monumentos. En relación al primer punto son muy acertadas las palabras de P. Navascués quien puntualizó: «Martinell interrumpió hacia 1929 su actividad como arquitecto para dedicarse a hacer la historia documentada de la teoría y obra y vida de A. Gaudi». El segundo aspecto es el que más me interesa para el presente artículo y en concreto su labor vinculada a su tarea como miembro de la Comisión de Monumentos de Tarragona.

The study of Cèsar Martinell began in 1927, since two years later there was a crucial turn in his professional career. From this date he devoted himself almost exclusively to two fields: the study of the history of art and the restoration of monuments. In relation to the first point, the words of P. Navascués who pointed out: «Martinell interrupted his activity as an architect around 1929 to dedicate himself to making the documented history of the theory and work and life of A. Gaudi». The second aspect is the one that most interests me for the present article and specifically his work linked to his task as a member of the Monuments Commission of Tarragona.
