Design of an open corpus and computer tool for writing development and instruction among students 8 to 16 years old, with and without learning disabilities

Abstract

Pretendemos, en este estudio, crear un corpus abierto monolingüe en español para el estudio del desarrollo de composición escrita entre tipologías de alumnos con y sin problemas de aprendizaje entre 8 y 16 años años de edad, tanto desde un enfoque evolutivo como comparativo. Perseguimos la construcción de un sistema informatizado corpus abierto que contiene textos de lengua escrita de estudiantes españoles. Estos textos han sido compilados por el equipo de investigación desde 1994 en el que se han estudiado miles de estudiantes (al menos 7232) y se han recopilado entre 14000 y 20000 textos que seguirán creciendo. Pretendemos intentar construir una herramienta informática que permita el análisis y evaluación y corrección automática de textos escritos desde una perspectiva psicológica evolutiva e instruccional para ser aplicada en el contexto educativo y utilizado por los profesores en las escuelas para automatizar la corrección de textos con el fin de evaluar productividad, calidad, estructura y coherencia de la composición escrita.

We aim, in this study, to create an open monolingual corpus in Spanish for the study of the development of writing composition between typologies of students with and without LD between 8 and 16 years of age, both from a developmental and comparative approach. We pursue the building of a computerized open corpus containing written language texts by Spanish students. These texts have been compiled by the research team since 1994 in which thousands of students have been studied (at least 7232) and between 14000 and 20000 texts have been gathered and will keep on growing. We also attempt to build a computer tool that will allow automatic texts analysis and evaluation and correction of written texts from a developmental and instructional psychological perspective to be applied in the educational context and used by teachers in schools to automate the correction of texts in order to evaluate productivity, quality, structure and coherence of the written composition.
