Neologismos de la “Historia Natural” en la traducción de la “Histoire Naturelle générale et particulière” de Buffon por Joseph Clavijo y Faxardo

Abstract

En este artículo se estudian algunos de los neologismos científicos que Clavija y Faxardo acuña en su traducción de la “Histoire Naturelle” de Buffon. El corpus está extraído de los XXI tomos de que consta dicha traducción. Realizarnos una clasificación de los nuevos términos por especialidades científicas (Geología, Zoología), una búsqueda de dichas voces en obras lexicográficas del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX, y un análisis de los procedimientos neológicos usados en la incorporación de dichos términos (préstamo -incluidos los cultismos-, neologismo semántico). Además, tratarnos de la diversa suerte que ha corrido cada uno de los términos por su difusión y pervivencia en la lengua española.

In this paper is to examine some of the scientific neologisms coined by Clavija y Faxardo in his translation of Buffon's “Historied naturelle”. The corpus of the study will be taken from the twenty-one volumes that make up the translation. The paper will classify these new terms according to scientific discipline (geology, zoology, etc.), look for them in the lexicographical works of the 18th and beginning of the 191h centuries, and analyze the procedures used to assimilate the neologisms, namely linguistic borrowing, including those from Latin and Greek, and semantic neologism. Finally, the paper will trace the trajectory and survival of each of these terms in the Spanish language.
