Los artículos sanitarios en el "Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de Badajoz" en el siglo XIX (1833-1873)

Abstract

Una forma de profundizar en el conocimiento de la sanidad española en el tercio medio del siglo XIX es el estudio de las publicaciones periódicas contemporáneas. El Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de Badajoz es nuestra fuente oficial original para ello. Hemos recopilado la documentación sanitaria publicada entre los años 1833 y 1873, en los que se editan 6.671 boletines. La hemos clasificado según su contenido en las áreas de Medicina, Farmacia y Veterinaria, y según su ámbito geográfico. En el presente estudio ampliamos la parte dedicada a los artículos sanitarios publicados en el Boletín. En el contexto de una importante crisis de la actividad editorial médica correspondiente a la primera mitad del siglo XIX, marcada por la penuria económica y la censura reminiscente del reinado de Fernando VII y la enorme influencia de la medicina europea, la publicación de artículos sanitarios en el Boletín Oficial de la Provincia de Badajoz es una de las escasas alternativas que les queda a los profesionales de la región extremeña para divulgar sus conocimientos e hipótesis con los que crear una corriente de pensamiento y prodigar unas pautas de actuación por parte de las autoridades y de la población ante las serias incertidumbres sanitarias que se presentan, como es la amenaza de las epidemias de cólera y el dilema de la aceptación o rechazo de los remedios homeopáticos.

A way of studying in depth the knowledge of the spanish Health the third means of the XIXth century is the study of the periodic contemporary publications. The Official Bulletin of the Province of Badajoz is our oficial original source for it. We have compiled the sanitary papers published between the year 1833 and 1873, in that 6.671 bulletins are edited. We have classified it according to his content under the areas of Medicine, Pharmacy and Veterinarian, and according to his geographical ambience. In the present study we extended the part dedicated to sanitary articles published in the Bulletin. In the context of an important crisis of the publishing medical activity corresponding to the first half of the XIXth century, marked by the economic penury and the censoring reminiscente of the reign of Fernando VII and the enormous influence of the European medicine, the publication of sanitary articles in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Badajoz is one of the scarce alternatives that there still have the professionals of the Extremaduran region to spread his knowledge and hypothesis with that to create a current of thought and to lavish a few rules of performance on part of the authorities and of the population before the serious sanitary uncertainties that appear, since it is the threat of the epidemics of cholera and the quandary of the acceptance or rejection of the homeopathic remedies.
