La Filosofía en el fin-de-siècle

Abstract

En Viena hace un siglo con la decadencia del Imperio se desmoronaba paradigmáticamente el viejo orden esencialista y unitario moderno. Salvando incalculables distancias, en Madrid, un siglo después, con la putrefacción del socialismo residual, se desmorona ejemplarmente en ese contexto el desorden relativista y diverso posmoderno. La diferencia es que allí surgió de las ruinas una reacción revolucionaria en el espíritu incomparable, llevada a cabo por una generación de genios, también en filosofía, y aquí se muere casi todo, incluída la filosofía, infectado de la podredumbre de la alegre progresía de antes y rendido a su flojera de conciencia. En tiempos como éstos, finiseculares otra vez, en que la situación española no es más que un tanto más fosca que otras, y por eso ejemplar, la función de la filosofía en ellos, si tiene todavía alguna de futuro, y su propia comprensión sobre todo, podría plantearse como sigue.

In Vienna a century ago, with the decline of the Empire, the old modern essentialist and unitary order paradigmatically crumbled. In Madrid, a century later, with the rotting of residual socialism, the relativistic and diverse post-modern disorder is crumbling in an exemplary manner. The difference is that there an incomparable revolutionary reaction in the spirit arose from the ruins, carried out by a generation of geniuses, also in philosophy, and here almost everything is dying, including philosophy, infected by the rottenness of the cheerful progressiveness of the past and surrendered to its sluggishness of conscience. In times like these, finisecular again, in which the Spanish situation is only somewhat more fossilised than others, and therefore exemplary, the function of philosophy in them, if it still has any future, and its own understanding above all, could be posed as follows.
