La Exposición Internacional de Barcelona y su impacto en Tarragona

Abstract

La celebración de la Exposición Internacional de Barcelona en 1929 significó la atracción de nuevas industrias y la creación de ciertas infraestructuras de carácter cultural y social. Pero ¿de qué manera repercutió esto en Tarragona. Así abordamos en primer lugar la presencia de Tarragona como cuna de la cultura de la Península Ibérica en la Exposición. El Arte en España y la imagen de la ciudad como atracción turística. Seguidamente analizamos la tutela de los vestigios romanos para demostrar las políticas poco coherentes en esa materia. Hubo inversiones importantes como el Paseo Arqueológico o el Foro Provincial pero a su vez la desidia favoreció la pérdida de la Iglesia del Miracle o la Necrópolis Paleocristiana. Y por último, constatamos que a pesar de la fuerte presencia de arquitecturas y decoraciones escultóricas de época romana su ornamentación no influyó en los inmuebles evantados en ese momento, en cambio algunas formulaciones de los pabellones de Barcelona se reprodujeron en Tarragona.

The celebration of the Barcelona´s International Exhibition in 1929 meant the creation of new cultural and social industry and infrastructures. In this sense, how did this event echoed in Tarragona. In this study, we analize the presence of Tarragona as the origin of culture in the Iberian Peninsula through the exhibition Art in Spain. We also study the citys representation as a tourist attraction. Then, we revise the preservation of Roman remains to provide evidence of inconsistent policies in the area. For example, there have been significant investments for the construction of the Archaeological Park or the Forum. However, the Church of Miracle or the Paleo- Christian Cemetery have been lost due to the idleness of institutions. Finally, we find that despite the strong presence of Roman architecture and sculptural decoration, it did not affect the new buildings of that time, however some formulations of the Barcelona pavilions were reproduced in Tarragona.
