A propósito del "alcotín" del "Buscón"

Abstract

Se muestra una defensa plausible sobre la hipótesis de que la palabra alcotin (que aparece dos veces en el llamado manuscrito B de El Buscón) provenga de la palabra “Coti” (del árabe Quti, es decir, “de los godos”), una variedad de la fig. También se defiende la posibilidad de que alcotin puede significar “higo pan”.

Evidence is submitted in defence of the plausibleness of the hypothesis that the word alcotin (that appears twice in the so-called manuscript B of El Buscón) originated from the word «coti» (from Arabic QUTi, that is, «of the Goths»), a variety of fig. The possibility that alcotin may mean «fig bread» is also defended.
