Narratology,myth and dissolution in William Faulkner's "The sound and the fury"

Abstract

Este artículo se divide en dos partes. La primera trata de ser un estudio de narratología, sus objetivos, los elementos en que un estudio narratológico debería centrarse, y los enlaces comunicativos existentes a lo largo de la línea autor real, autor implícito, narrador-narratario implícito, lector real, lector implícito. La segunda parte del ensayo se centra en un análisis narratológico de la obra de Faulkner “The Sound and the Fury”. El papel de los diferentes narradores, el tiempo y la figura del narratario son elementos combinados en el análisis, un estudio de la estructura mítica y la posible influencia del freudismo en la novela a fin de mostrar la posibilidad de una lectura más clarificante del libro.

This paper is divided in two parts. The first one attempts to be a survey of narratology, its aims, the elements a narratological study should focus upon, and the communicative links existing along the line real author-implied author-narrator-narratee-implied reader-real reader. The second part of the essay centers on a narratological analysis of Faulkner's “The Sound and the Fury”. The role of the different narrators, time, and the figure of the narrator, are elements combined in the analysis with a study of the mythic structure and the possible influence of Freudianism in the novel so as to show the possibility of a more clarifying reading of the book.
