Experiencias traumáticas, ambiente familiar y ajuste psicológico

Abstract

El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la relación existente entre una serie de experiencias traumáticas o estresantes durante la infancia y el ajuste psicológico de los participantes, así como el rol del ambiente familiar en dicho ajuste. El estudio fue llevado a cabo con una muestra de estudiantes universitarios de la Universidad de Granada (España), de entre 18 y 24 años. Con el fin de evaluar las experiencias traumáticas se empleó un cuestionario diseñado específicamente para esta investigación. El ambiente familiar fue evaluado a través de la “Escala de Ambiente Familiar” (FES; Moos, Moos y Trickett, 1974), mientras que para evaluar el ajuste psicológico se utilizó la “Escala de Gravedad de Síntomas del Trastorno de Estrés Postraumático” (Echeburúa, Corral, Amor, Zubizarreta y Sarasua, 1997). Las puntuaciones medias en estrés post-traumático fueron superiores en el grupo de participantes que habían sufrido la muerte de uno o ambos progenitores. Sin embargo, el papel del ambiente familiar en el ajuste psicológico fue especialmente relevante en el caso de aquellos participantes que habían sufrido abuso sexual infantil (ASI) y, sobre todo, el divorcio de sus padres.

The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between several traumatic or stressful experiences during childhood and the psychological adjustment of the participants, as well as the role of the family environment on such adjustment. The study was carried out with a sample of college students from the University of Granada (Spain), between 18 and 24 years old. With the objective of assessing the traumatic experiences a questionnaire specifically developed with this aim was used. Family environment was assessed trough the “Family Environment Scale” (FES; Moos, Moos & Trickett, 1974), whereas for assessing the psychological adjustment, the “Escala de Gravedad de Síntomas del Trastorno de Estrés Postraumático” (Echeburúa, Corral, Amor, Zubizarreta & Sarasua, 1997) was used. Mean scores on posttraumatic stress were higher in the group of participants who had suffered the decease of one or both of their parents. However, the role of family environment on the psychological adjustment was especially relevant in the case of those participants who had suffered child sexual abuse (CSA) and, especially, the divorce of their parents.
