This paper’s main objective is to identify and analyse the characteristics of social trust that develop in natural areas, taking into account the connections and interactions between the people and institutions involved in such areas. It proposes a deeper understanding of the different degrees of trust and the identification of those attributes which affect the generation of this trust at three different levels: strategic, normative and cognitive. Social trust is considered to be a combination of our different expectations of other people or, more specifically, their actions. Such expectations become important when the individual has to choose a course of action knowing that its success depends on other people. However, that choice has to be made before these other people’s actions can be evaluated. The key is to know how the territorial framework determines individual reciprocity, group cooperation, territorial commitment.
