The changes that suffered the “art of war” between 16th and 17th centuries increased the effects of wars over societies, because they amplified destruction, changed the ways to enrol soldiers and increased fiscal oppression. These consequences also deeply changed the social structures and behaviours. With this article we pretend to analyse the increasing effects of wars, spatially focused in the Spanish region of Extremadura and chronologically situated in the “Guerra de Restauración de Portugal” (1640-1668). |
