The Military Order of Saint John or Order of the Hospital supported narrow relations with other Military Orders present in Castile during the Twelfth and Thirteenth Centuries. First, is observed that the Castilian Hospitallers formed a part member of the group of the Military Orders of the kingdom. They supported common positions in some political questions and signed agreements of mutual collaboration. In addition, the Order of Saint John began bilateral relations with each of the above mentioned Orders in Castile. The most frequent links were the developed ones with the Order of Santiago, but in minor measure also there were contacts with the Orders of Calatrava, Alcantara and Temple. In this bilateral level, they alternate the good relations with the lawsuits and conflicts. In general, it is possible to say that the Castilian Hospitallers supported positive enough links with other Orders until beginning of the Fourteenth Century. |
