This paper analyzes the motive, habitual in prints of the 16th and 17th centuries, of the martyrdom of Saint Erasmus, Christian martyr of the 4th century that underwent different tortures under the government of Domiciano. The victory against the different torments manifests the triumph of the faith of this singular Christian martyr, aspect that explains its connection with the Beguinage sense, communities that responded to a Christian spirit that congregated its components in associations less closed and severe than the monasteries. |
