Avance de la primera campaña de excavación en el recinto-torre de Hijovejo (Quintana de la Serena, Badajoz). El sondeo núm. 2

Abstract

Durante las prospecciones arqueológicas realizadas en la comarca de La Serena (Badajoz), en 1985, se documentó la existencia de unas estructuras de reducidas dimensiones que, con poblamiento romano en superficie, se distribuían por el llano con una función que ignorábamos y con una filiación cultural que planteaba serias dudas. El análisis de esta serie de asentamientos apuntaba hacia la posibilidad de que nos encontráramos ante un tipo de hábitat específico de cuya existencia no había noticias hasta entonces en el panorama arqueológico extremeño.

During the archaeological prospections carried out in the region of La Serena (Badajoz), in 1985, the existence of structures of small dimensions was documented, which, with Roman settlement on the surface, were distributed along the plain with a function that we did not know and with a filiation that raised serious doubts. The analysis of this series of settlements pointed to the possibility that we were facing a specific type of habitat whose existence had not been reported until then in the archaeological panorama from Extremadura.
