Reflexiones históricas en los diarios de los viajeros de habla inglesa a su paso por Extremadura

Abstract

Los viajeros de habla inglesa que durante varios siglos visitaron Extremadura recogieron en sus diarios comentarios e impresiones diversas. Casi todos ellos ofrecen su opinión sobre aspectos tales como las carreteras por las que circularon, los lugares donde pernoctaron, las ciudades y pueblos que visitaron, la comida o también las gentes que trataron. Mas en algunos casos los sitios que visitan suscitan en ellos recuerdos de un pasado histórico próximo o lejano. En cualquier caso, sus opiniones del signo que fueren forman ya parte del legado cultural de Extremadura.

The English speaking travellers who over the centuries visited Extremadura recorded their comments and opinions in their diaries. The majority of them wrote about the roads they travelled on, the inns they spent the night in, the towns and villages they visited, the food they ate and the people they met. Moreover in some cases the places they visited brought back memories of a distant or more recent date in history. In any case, their opinions now form part of the cultural legacy of Extremadura.
