Pondering the importance that infant mortality has in the study of mortality in particular and of the population in general terms lacks relevance and opportunity, but I think a brief reflection is necessary on its indirect explanatory capacity in the case of Ancient Regime populations in which high pressure conditions persisted for several decades after the exhaustion of the system in Western Europe. This is the case of Extremadura, and possibly a large part of the interior Spain. |
