Abstract

Este ensayo es una breve reflexión sobre algunas de las respuestas que un escritor puede adoptar sobre los objetos materiales. Cinco textos seleccionados como ilustración sugieren que un escritor puede elegir una de las cinco opciones siguientes. En primer lugar, puede usar objetos para dar una representación unívoca, coherente y realista. En segundo lugar, puede ignorar los objetos con el fin de representar a un mundo más allá de la realidad material. En tercer lugar, los objetos y las palabras pueden ser el centro del juego, como un escape de la existencia y su angustia. En cuarto lugar, las palabras y los objetos que evocan pueden servir de partida a los fuegos artificiales de la imaginación. Por último, los objetos pueden ser neutralizados de manera que se representen parcial, provisional o conflictivamente, como en la vida misma. La forma en que un escritor se ocupa de los objetos materiales está, pues, estrechamente vinculada a los problemas de significado y referencia contextual.

This essay is a brief reflection on some of the responses that a writer may adopt to material things. Five texts selected as illustration suggest that a writer may choose one of five options. First, s/he may use objects to give a univocal, coherent and realistic representation. Secondly, s/he may ignore objects in order to represent a world beyond material reality. Thirdly, objects and words may be the focus of play, as an escape from existence and its anguish. Fourthly, words and the objects they evoke may set light to the fireworks of the imagination. Finally, objects may be neutralized so that they are rendered partially, provisionally or conflictingly, as in life itself. The way that a writer deals with objects is, then, closely linked to problems of meaning and reference.
